So Ford in their infinite wisdom, put a 351W crankshaft in the 400 block, and the 351M was born. It may have been “ok” for that era, otherwise that M stands for “Marine-Anchor”. A 400 crank can be (and was a lot) used in a 351W block to build a lightweight 408 from junkyard parts.
