How to start 05 cadillac sts without key fob

I can press the unlock button on the fob and everything unlocks like normal and I can pull on the handle and it opens. Its only when the doors are locked and i pull on the drivers door that it won't automatically unlock. This happened a couple years ago, and a simple replacement of my key fob battery fixed the issue.
