I have the 2.0 ('19) with the mild hybrid system btw., After being repeatedly shocked at hearing so many here referring to having to change their batteries out after just three or four years, one member pointed out that the JLs are set up to NOT charge the battery at the maximum possible voltage, but that the battery charging is limited to 12 volts, apparently in the (absurd) name of "fuel economy" ..., While 1 battery ESS systems in other vehicles are common, the 3.6L JL's two battery system may tax the ESS battery (normally the ESS/Aux battery) more than in 1 battery systems under the premise that during normal operation, the big main battery is left pretty much untouched during ESS events, preserving its power for the post ESS event …, Batteries are only covered under the 3/36 factory warranty. Dealer will tell you that both batteries need to remain for warranty coverage. Whether or not ESS is used has no significant effect on charging or battery life. My main battery failed at about 3.5 years. I bought a new Aux Battery, at the same time, but have not replaced it yet., On long road trips, I have had the voltage drop as low as 12.7. And once had 12.5V which the dealer said was OK and gave me a Jeep bulletin that stated normal voltage could be between 12.4 and 14.5 volts. I really dislike the smart charging system.
